When visiting a new city, it's easy to get a true visitor's experience. Hotels, airports and a quick Uber ride across town are often the only bullet points on someone's itinerary. Is this the best way to experience a new city or culture? This holds true for health and fitness just as much as it does for all other aspects of travel. So why not experience a new city's health and fitness scene authentically? Of course when you're crunched for time and in and out of airports and hotels, a quick bodyweight workout in your hotel room might be your best option. However, if you have some time to experience the fitness scene in the city you're in, try doing it like a local.

New York City

New York is a big town so we're going to focus on the part that really counts: Manhattan.

Crossfit NYC

This crossfit box is the largest and one of the oldest in the country but this doesn't take away from the local experience you'll get here. Despite having a large number of visitors dropping in, the feel at Crossfit NYC is anything but touristy. With locations on the Upper West Side and in the Flatiron District, visitors in Manhattan have a choice in which one to check out. Their friendly drop-in policy and experienced instructors provide an optimal experience for any visiting crossfitters. 

Bikram Yoga NYC

If you're going to find the best local yoga experience in Manhattan, Bikram Yoga NYC is going to provide it. There are four locations in Manhattan to choose from: the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, Midtown and the Flatiron District. They've been in business for 17 years and have some of the best instructors you'll find while in town. 

Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp

This outdoor workout is one anyone visiting New York City should consider. Not only will you get a great workout but you'll do it on one of the most iconic bridges in the world and with amazing views of both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Not a bad way to burn some calories. Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp offers a few programs but we'd opt for the Manhattan side start. Be prepared for an hour-long high-intensity interval training session. 

Juice Generation

Considered New York's premier juice bar since 1999, Juice Generation serves up nutritious juices, smoothies and snacks sourced from locally grown, organic produce. If you can't get to one of their 14 locations in Manhattan, they'll deliver to you via Postmates. 

Foragers Table

When the time comes to fuel your body or replenish it after a great workout, it's hard to top Foragers Table in Chelsea. This local hotspot sources locally and serves healthy meats, organic veggies and dishes that are both interesting and fantastic. A perfect combination of healthy and tasteful.
