4 Tips For Running While on Vacation

Running on vacation can be an enjoyable experience and, with some planning, there is no reason why this has to be something which eats into the family’s vacation time.

Do you have a vacation coming up soon?

Don’t fret, you can still train and go running! It is not only possible, but running while on vacation can be a great way to reignite that burning passion for running again.

Running is a great way to take in the sights and see the place you are visiting but, at the same time, you don’t want to overdo it because vacation time is family time for most people. Running whilst on vacation requires some thought and forward planning. With the right balance, though, there is no reason why you couldn’t enjoy a leisurely run.

Here are some tips you can take with you when it comes to running on vacation.

Get up early.

Although you will probably be getting up early on vacation to make the most of your time anyway, getting up an hour ahead of everybody else means you get your run in without eating into any valuable family time. Plus, on summer vacation, the sun rises earlier which makes the whole process much easier, enjoyable, and less intimidating.

Make sure to wake up at the same hour every day as this set your sleep cycles in a rhythm and primes it for action. Set up a quick, invigorating routine that includes stretching, lots of water and possibly a boosting breakfast.

Get big runs in before your vacation.

By getting a few big runs before you head off on vacation, you can spend less time focusing on bigger goals while being there. If you are the type of person who enjoys running for an hour or two, get plenty of these in beforehand so that you do not have major withdrawal symptoms on vacation.

Of course, if you get up early enough, there might be time for some longer hauls, but you should consider the fact that the body needs the occasional respite to perform better when it matters. Shorter vacation runs can do just that.

Focus on just running rather than location or destination.

Spending too long pondering about where to run on vacation will just waste valuable time. Instead, just go straight out there and go running around the local streets. You don’t need to go far; a few laps around the block may be everything you need to satisfy your running needs.

If you are staying longer in one place, use the first day more for exploring instead of a proper run, so that you can find a route that suits you. Naturally, doing some research online before reaching your destination can also help in this regard.

If you move from place to place, running is the ideal way to get to know each location better, to find places of interest to visit more extensively later.

Bring the right shoes.

Don’t forget to bring the right pair of running shoes with you. The worst thing you could possibly do is forget them. You will then either A) have to abandon the thought of running altogether; or B) buy a pair of shoes while there. If you don’t own any sneakers specifically designed for running, consider checking out some Nike running shoes online and find a pair that you like.

Having the right running shoes can mean the difference between an invigorating run and a nasty injury, so this is not something you want to skimp on.

Without a doubt, the proper shoes are the most important piece of equipment for any serious runner. Arguably, the only one that truly matters.

Bottom Line

Running on vacation can be an enjoyable experience and, with some planning, there is no reason why this has to be something which eats into the family’s vacation time.
