A Review of SCP Fit at SCP Hotel Colorado Springs

To the fitness-minded traveler, nothing stands out in a hotel more than a great gym.

Have you ever heard of holistic hospitality?

Soul Community Planet Hotel, or SCP for short, in Colorado Springs provides guests with a thoughtfully designed, environmentally friendly place to stay.

There’s an undeniable emphasis on wellness when you’re at the SCP Hotel and when you’re thinking of wellness, one of the first things that may come to mind is the fitness center.

Hotel gyms don’t exactly have the greatest reputation but as we’ve shown you, they’re getting better. SCP Hotel didn’t cut any corners when designing their gym, so you won’t be disappointed in it. In fact, you might just become one of “those people” who like to work out on vacation.

Here’s our review of SCP Fit at the SCP Hotel.

A Must-Visit Hotel

SCP Hotel Colorado Springs is an eco-chic hotel located off Interstate 25, four miles from the U.S. Olympic Training Center and five miles from the scenic waterfalls and geological monuments at The Broadmoor Seven Falls.

The hotel has 174 stylish rooms featuring wood floors and handcrafted up-cycled furnishings, pantries stocked with complimentary coffee and green tea, humidifiers with essential oils, rock salt lamps, and sleep sound generators. Free Wi-Fi and cable TV, minifridges and suite bathrooms are offered in all rooms.

There’s also an outdoor pool, the 5,000 square-foot SCP Fit fitness center, a common lounging area, a hotel bar, and a Provisions market that has locally-sourced, fresh and wholesome food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We’ve also heard there’s free beer and kombucha when you check in.

“We are proud to open our first SCP Hotel in Colorado Springs. Our vision is to make the world a better place by serving those who value personal wellness, social good and the environment. Our hand-crafted SCP venues merge earth-friendly and socially responsible practices with modern, clean lodging accommodations, nutritious “vegan-forward” food choices, places for socializing, collaborating and working, and superior fitness experiences - all at prices determined by our guests themselves,” says Soul Community Planet Co-Founder and CEO Ken Cruse.

The latter part of what Cruse was referring to is the Fair Trade Pricing program at SCP Hotel Colorado Springs. This program gives guests the power to determine the price they pay based on the quality of their experience at the hotel.

Introducing SCP Fit

Two major issues guests have with many hotel gyms are the lack of space and limited equipment options. Neither are an issue at SCP Fit.

Located below the lobby, the fitness center is over 5,000-square-feet and includes not only a weight and cardio room, but also a dedicated yoga and meditation room.

If you’re the type of person that likes your fitness in a group setting, SCP Fit runs classes in yoga, Pilates, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

A Well-Equipped Gym

When you think of your typical hotel gym, you’re probably envisioning a broken treadmill and a few dumbbells in a room roughly the size of a closet.

At SCP Fit, you’re going to find nearly everything you’d like to see in any gym, let alone a hotel gym.

Here’s a rundown of the equipment:

  • Treadmills

  • Ellipticals

  • Stair Climber

  • Peloton Bikes

  • AirDyne Bike

  • Dumbbells

  • Barbells

  • Kettlebells

  • Benches

  • Cable Machine

  • Smith Machine

  • Pull-Up Bars

  • Medicine Balls

  • TRX Suspension Trainers

  • Battle Ropes

One of the first things you’ll notice when you enter SCP Fit is the open-space design of the gym, so you won’t have to worry about getting too close to the other people in the gym, something that’s often an issue at hotel gyms.

The equipment is spaced out nicely and there’s plenty of room to roll out a mat and stretch or do yoga.

If you’re a functional fitness person or a CrossFitter, you’ll love this gym. There’s more than enough for you to work with to create a workout (or WOD) that challenges your strength and stamina, and with much of the same equipment you’d find at your home gym.

If you’re a weightlifter, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better hotel gym to satisfy your training needs. There’s dumbbells (no heavy ones), barbells, and benches. The Smith Machine and plates aren’t a squat rack but works just fine if you adjust your training slightly.

An indoor pool for Extreme Performance Training (a strength and conditioning program developed by Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reece) classes and a rock climbing wall are coming soon.

The gym is open 24/7 and personal training sessions are available upon request.

SCP Fit is free for hotel guests but is also open to anyone who wants to work out for $15 a day or per class ($10 for military).

Good for the Planet

If a good gym isn’t enough to get you to stay at SCP Hotel, maybe you’ll like how environmentally-friendly they are.

Renovations to the hotel have extensively utilized recycled, natural and low-toxicity materials.

In addition to modern HVAC, property-wide LEDs, and high efficiency equipment, SCP Hotel has extensive solar arrays to support an already reduced electrical demand.

The hotel also has EV charging stations for guests and four Tesla charging stations available for guest use.

SCP Hotel does not use plastic water bottles, straws or plastic-ware and their goal is to reduce overall waste (plastics and other) by 50% as compared to a typical hotel.

Final Word

We’re all about staying fit while traveling and a good hotel gym is big part of our strategy for doing so.

SCP Hotel has done an exceptional job providing their guests with a spacious gym that has a wide variety of equipment that fitness-minded travelers will find satisfying during their stay.
