A Review of the World's Largest Hotel Gym at the TWA Hotel

We were granted a first look at the spectacular gym in the TWA Hotel.

If you’ve been reading Fittest Travel for any amount of time, you know that hotel gyms are kind of our thing. We travel a lot and always look for a good gym before booking the hotel.

The TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York opened on May 15, 2019, and we were there before the hotel opened its doors to guests to get a glimpse of what has been touted as the largest hotel gym in the world.

We were not disappointed.

The Fitness Center at TWA Hotel

The gym is located in the basement of the TWA Hotel. It’s not the greatest location but this gym makes up for the lack of natural lighting and views with a massive amount of space and equipment.

You might actually forget you’re in a hotel when you walk into this gym. It’s huge. At over 10,000 square feet, the gym is so spacious that it’s hard to imagine ever waiting for any piece of equipment while here.

The gym was designed by The Wright Fit - led by CEO Jay Wright, a strength and conditioning specialist and celebrity trainer.

“The TWA Hotel’s fitness center has the perfect blend of progressive design and great energy throughout the space,” says Jay Wright, CEO of The Wright Fit.

“I equate it to a MacBook Pro: It has a sleek design and is loaded with cutting-edge equipment for experts but is user-friendly if you’re just looking for a straightforward or simple workout.”

If you’re looking for functional fitness options in a hotel gym, you’ll be happy at the TWA Hotel gym.

There are kettlebells, battle ropes, monkey bars, medicine balls, sandbags, jump ropes, resistance bands, boxes, and TRX straps here.

Are you more of the heavy-lifting type?

TWA’s gym has dumbbells up to 100 pounds, multiple benches, squat racks, barbells, and weight machines.

All you cardio lovers will be happy here, too.

There are treadmills, ellipticals, stair masters, stationary bikes, Concept2 rowers, and a whole room full of Peloton bikes.

You can take a spin class on one of the sixteen Peloton bikes in the separate studio adjacent to the fitness center.

Peloton bikes are popping up in hotels across the United States and you can find a complete list of those hotels here.

Final Word

We’ve covered hotel gyms extensively here at Fittest Travel and the fitness center at the new TWA Hotel is the best hotel gym in NYC and one of the best in the world.

Enjoy plenty of space and a wide variety of equipment during your stay for a great workout.

Rooms at TWA Hotel run about $250 a night but shorter stays are available. You can book a room in a four-hour block, starting at $150.

So if you find yourself with a long layover at JFK and you’re in need of a workout, shower, and bed, you might want to check-in.

The gym is open 24/7 and is free for guests of the hotel. Day passes or monthly memberships are available.
